Power Steering Options
Follow On Tiller controllers are available in 2 different models with slightly different modes of operation.
- Choose the Standby-Power Steer-Standby (A80532) variant for applications where you would like remote steering capability without engaging or disengaging the autopilot. Touching the activation button on the tiller controller enables Power Steer mode of the autopilot in standby mode and gives full control of rudder movement. Touching the activation button again returns the autopilot to Standby mode.
- Choose the Auto-Power Steer-Auto (A80602) variant to make course adjustments under autopilot control. Touching the activation button will change the autopilot's status from automatic mode (engaged) to Power Steer mode, giving the captain manual control of rudder movement. Touching the activation button again returns the autopilot to Auto mode.
Two Operation Modes
The controller supports both Follow-Up and Non-Follow up modes for maximum flexibility. The controller comes pre-fitted with a return spring to bring the controller back to the 0° center position automatically upon release. The return spring can be removed if desired.
In Follow-Up-Mode the rudder follows the tiller precisely. When the tiller is released or set to 0° the rudder is set to amidships. In Non-Follow-Up mode, the rudder remains at the angle set when the controller is released or set to 0° and requires the operator to manually correct to amidships.
